My Proposal is Better

Arizona State Senator Karen S. Johnson is sponsoring a bill that allows students, 21 and older, and staff to carry concealed weapons at colleges and universities. This is an issue that raises many levels of argument. The reason this bill was brought up was for the concern of safety in academic institutions. However, my concern is on the effectiveness of the bill. The bill will not help keep schools safer but increase the probabilities of school shootings. You don’t solve school shooting by handing out guns to those 21 and older, by allowing guns in school you increase the possibilities of shooting incidents. If there are no guns allow in school and there are shootings, imagine when you allow guns in schools.

The solution to a safer school environment would be to enforce the zero tolerance policy. Keeping weapons away from school grounds will keep everyone more secure. Of course there will be school police and any local police man that will carry weapons and that’s to keep the school safer. In addition of keeping weapons way from school, the school should start programs to help students with personal problems.

The problem in the bill is the concern of adding weapons to the schools, more weapons means a less safe place. Having the schools enforce the zero tolerance policy will keep weapons away and decrease any shooting incidents. And the school programs will help the students with counseling, while keeping the school aware of any students capable of doing harm to others.
